Have you ever wondered how we separate stone into different sizes? It is fairly simple with today’s technology. In the past, we had to hand-pick stone out of a pile to size it accordingly. As technology has become more advanced, we were able to cut the sizing time in half. Our team utilizes a screener or scalper to help us separate stone.
What is Scalping?
Scalping is a form of stone separation. A scalper is a large piece of equipment that helps to separate stone by size. It has different conveyer belts and screens that help to separate stone. It works by dumping stone into the machine which then shakes at a high frequency to separate the stone through a screen. These screens have different sized holes that the stone will fall through to then be separated off the conveyor belt. You are able to change the size of the screens to fit your needs. We typically like to separate bigger stone from smaller stone. These machines come in many different sizes. You can get them with 1-3 belts to help you separate your stone. To get a better understanding check out this video below which gives you a closer look at how these machines run.
What do we do with the Stone?
After we separate the stone using the scalper, we then can wash and sell our stone. For us, we use the scalper to help us create our palletized stone products. It is more efficient for us because we will not have to hand pick each size. You can also use it for bulk products as well.
